“Gifted and talented children” means those persons between the ages of five and twenty-one whose abilities, talents, and potential for accomplishment are so exceptional or developmentally advanced that they require special provisions to meet their educational programming needs. Gifted students are capable of high performance, exceptional production, or exceptional learning behavior by virtue of any or a combination of these areas of giftedness:

• General or specific intellectual ability.
• Specific academic aptitude.
• Creative or productive thinking.
• Leadership abilities.
• Visual arts, performing arts, musical or psychomotor abilities.

Tasks for 2009-10:

1. End product of a notebook (resource) of interventions and progress monitoring tools
2. Understanding data and how to have the data quide our district, school, and team decisions
3. Understanding progress monitoring and error analysis, data collection, and tools
4. Increase Teamwork (PLC), possibly look at protocols

Response to Intervention is an approach that promotes a well-integrated system connecting general,compensatory, gifted, and special education in providing high quality, standards-based instruction/intervention that is matched to students academic, social-emotional, and behavioral needs. Response to Intervention is a multi-tiered, problem-solving approach that addresses academic and behavioral difficulties of ALL students.  It is an integrated school improvement model that is standards-driven, proactive and incorporates both prevention and intervention. RTI is effective at ALL levels (Early childhood through High School).
